Werner Liebmann

BIOGRAPHY

Werner Liebmann (b. 1951, Königsthal) is a German painter and graphic artist based in Berlin. After initially studying chemistry and working as an engineer, he studied painting and graphic art at Burg Giebichenstein and later became a master student of Bernhard Heisig in Leipzig. He taught at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts and was professor of painting at Weißensee Academy of Art Berlin from 1993 to 2017. His expressive figurative paintings combine vivid colour, dense detail and a taste for the grotesque.
