Characterized by a clear and delicate sound, his style, aptly termed Zen-drumming, seeks to harness the power of silence and evoke the essence of sacred philosophies through sound. Kavall’s immersive concert performance `Spatial Guitar` invites the listener to the center of his music. It reimagines the electric guitar as a spatially playable instrument of independent voices that surround the audience. Compositions of spatially choreographed tone sequences, circulating patterns and moving textures fill the space, while moments of melodic minimalism and spatially distributed chord voices allow the listener to be amidst the very elements that momentarily become the music. Set within a hexagon of speakers and audio-reactive lights, Spatial Guitar combines the immersive experience of an audiovisual installation with the dynamic performance of a live concert.
